Shemariah Blum-Evitts, Assistant Program Manager, and Mohammed Najeeb, Case Management Coordinator, for Lutheran Social Services of New England spoke at an Instant Issues event on The Current Status of Refugee Arrivals in Western Massachusetts:  Our New Neighbors from the Middle East, Africa and Asia on Wednesday, February  8, 2012 at noon in the Community Room at 1350 Main Street—3rd Floor (Sovereign Bank), downtown Springfield.

To effectively facilitate the economic and social integration of refugees and immigrants into American society, Lutheran Social Services provides the high quality services throughout the resettlement period, to fostering the self-sufficiency of refugee and immigrant families, to informing and educating the community about the refugee and immigrant experience, and to partnering with volunteers and the community.   In addition to basic resettlement services, LSS  offers a variety of services to assist refugees and immigrants with their transition including Legal Services for immigrants and a foster care program for refugee children through the Unaccompanied Refugee Minors Program.
